I feel like with every new project I say “this one was my favourite”. Maybe it’s because with each project comes new experiences and new styles or maybe it just fuels a new creative fire within me. Whatever the reason, this recent project is definitely up there as one of my favourite projects to date. The location was on Lac Heney, QC, a bit of a drive from Ottawa but well worth the travel. We started this project in the summer and finished with our first big snowfall this winter. Watching the change of seasons made the commute an easy one to complete this project.

The main focus for this project was to update the lower level of this cottage. We wanted to brighten up the space and create a more inviting area to cozy up by the fire, watch a movie on a rainy day, or play a game of pool with friends before heading out on the boat for an afternoon.

With the help of new lighting, furniture throughout and more useful storage placement these cottage owners are now ready to tackle every season in their cozy new space.

Main Living Area

Built-ins & Custom Shelving

We wanted to design a space that was functional for entertaining, allowing for optimal space for food and drinks for hosting guests while at the same time provide storage for the many books and games kept in this space. The custom shelving really elevated the space adding visual interest to the otherwise awkward nook.

Bedroom

We started by updating the paint in this space with Benjamin Moore’s Barren Plain in both the bedroom and main areas to really keep the spaces cohesive and bright. We used an Ikea pax system for a built-in closet since the space didn’t have one initially and a full length mirror to give the illusion of a larger space. The inspiration for this room was in the natural surroundings of the cottage picking up on the blue tones in the lakeside views.
